Powder coating and zinc plating: what to specify

Powder coating and zinc plating: what to specify

How to specify finishing requirements and avoid confusing electrochemical zinc plating with hot dip galvanizing.

Powder coating and zinc plating: what to specify

Finishing belongs in the technical requirements

Describe finishing at quotation stage alongside geometry and material. Appearance, service conditions, functional surfaces and required documentation may influence project assessment. If your customer has an approved specification, send it in full rather than relying on a commercial label that may be interpreted differently.

Powder-coating requirements

For coating, requested colour, appearance, quantity and protected areas are useful. Identify contact surfaces and assembly requirements. FORTZA STEEL lists an automatic electrostatic painting line but not all accepted dimensions or performance classes. Requesting a colour or coating does not confirm availability before quotation.

Zinc plating is a specific process

The listed service is alkaline electrochemical zinc plating, not hot dip galvanizing. Explicitly state any required process, standard, coating or inspection. Do not infer a protection class or coating thickness from the word “galvanizing” alone; compatibility needs confirmation for the component.

What to send for a useful assessment

Attach the drawing and identify material, dimensions, quantity and finish. Add masking areas, functional surfaces, inspection and expected documentation where relevant. The team can clarify these requirements before quoting. Neither submission nor a receipt automatically accepts a specification.
